Overview
Lotus Gardens Primary School in Pretoria, South Africa, has 1,213 pupils and only 28 teachers. The school is located in a poor community and has little money for school supplies - consequently there is a shortage of everything from basic tools like protractors to technology such as computers.

'In our maths classes, learners who were previously nervous and lacked confidence suddenly became the ones who would go up to the interactive whiteboard, pick up the pen and work.'
– Mags Moodley, Teacher

Challenge
Staff needed to ensure that pupils were learning the required skills for their grade level before moving on to the next grade. This meant finding a way to give pupils access to essential learning tools such as educational CD-ROMS and standard classroom tools such as protractors.
SMART Solution
Despite their financial constraints the school bought a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, a projector and a computer with the help of a grant offered by OMEGA Digital Technologies, SMART's South African distributor.
Results
Pupils are more confident learners and acquire the proper skills before moving on to the next grade. Using the interactive whiteboard, they can watch educational CD-ROMs on the large screen and access virtual tools such as a protractor through Notebook software.
